Mercy Plans Program to Inspire Women to Improve Their Health |
On Thursday, July 17, Mercy Health Center, as part
of its Spirit of Women initiative, will host area women for a free,
informational and entertaining evening entitled “Beauty, Balance and Breath”.
The program will be held at the Liberty Theatre, 113 S. Main, with doors opening
at 6:30 p.m. The event is aimed at creating physical and emotional balance for
women.
During the evening, the winners of Mercy’s Ageless Beauty contest will be
honored along with all nominees. One lady in each decade of her life beginning
with the 20’s through the 90’s will be selected for exemplifying beauty and
balance and representing ageless beauty.
“We, as women, feel constant pressure to get what is needed out of life – and
this program is designed to provide women with the tools and strategies for a
healthier life in body, mind and spirit,” said Carla Farmer, Mercy director of
marketing and Spirit of Women liaison. “Our goal is to help women have a great
time while uncovering important facts and advice about health concerns such as
hormone imbalance and sleep disorders to help women maximize their lives.”
The primary focus of this program, the fourth in a series of programs offered by
Mercy in 2008, is “health-u-tainment activities”, but also covers educational
information on the following topics:
• Balancing Your Hormones
o Dr. Larry Seals, OB/GYN, will present facts on hormone imbalance, therapy,
symptoms throughout menopause and various treatment options.
• Balancing Your Life
o Dr. John Fox, internal medicine, will discuss a variety of symptoms related to
sleep disorders and the steps to achieving a good night’s rest.
Sharing emcee duties for the evening will be Dr. Judy Rogers, president of
Cottey College in Nevada, MO, and Reta Baker, chief operating officer for Mercy
Health System of Kansas.
The evening will feature local entertainers including a young vocalist, Alex
King, and Natalie Magee, a dance artist, to help motivate and inspire women to
get up and move, according to organizers. Aileen Pollock, a yoga instructor,
will also lead attendees in healthy breathing techniques to release stress.
Everyone present will be able to register for door prizes and a grand prize to
be awarded at the conclusion of the evening.
Mercy Nutritional Services will offer a variety of hors d’oeuvres along with a
chocolate fondue bar for guests.
Liberty Theatre is a 2008 corporate partner with Mercy in this initiative and
through this partnership makes it possible for the series of programs to be
hosted at the theatre.
While the event is free, tickets are required and can be picked up beginning
Thursday, July 3. She-Power members may pick up their tickets immediately by
simply showing their key tab. Tickets outlets include Mercy Registration Desk,
Mercy Health for Life, Mercy Medical Plaza, 902 S. Horton, or Fort Scott Area
