Mardie Bell, RN, OB Coordinator

Mardie Bell, 39, is the OB Coordinator for Mercy Hospital and is responsible for departmental staffing and the operations of the Maternal & Infant Clinic and MercyKids Immunization Clinic. She began her career at Mercy in 1991.

While Mardie serves in a supervisory capacity, as an OB nurse, her job also includes providing care for mothers at all stages of pregnancy, labor and delivery and caring for newborns upon arrival.

“I always wanted to be an OB nurse. From the moment I started nursing school, I knew I wanted to go into OB,” Mardie explains.

“I enjoy working for Mercy. I like the people I work with - I have made a lot of friends here. It is a community hospital …and a really friendly environment.”

A Registered Nurse in the Mercy Family Birthplace coordinates obstetrical patent care by: identifying specific patient care needs; prescribing interventions to meet the patient’s expected outcomes; and communicating and working effectively with physicians and team members. Requirements include documented education and experience in caring for patients who are in the prenatal, antepartum or postpartum stages of pregnancy; graduation from an accredited school of nursing; and current Kansas licensure. Med/surg and OB experience is preferred, and excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification is required within one year of employment and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within three months of employment. Both courses are offered at Mercy. Click here to apply online.
